BSM - Time to Rest

Her eyes are tired, watery and pink. Her nose is constantly running and quite raw at this point and that phlegmy cough in her chest sounds like it hurts.

No matter how hard you try, it is inevitable. I make her wash her hands 50 times a day, use Purell constantly, and treat her cousins like they have the plague when they are sick (love you guys), and still end up sick.

How do you get a toddler to rest and relax? She still wants to bounce off the walls and act like all is good. Guess all is good in her world. On the flip side, I am glad she is not bogged down with a fever. Things could definitely be worse. Knock on wood....

BSM - Being Taken Over

This time of year, we are being taken over by Boxelder bugs and Ladybugs. Although the Boxelders are not our favorite, Ella has been collecting the Ladybugs in a jar and then releasing them at the end of the day. This little friend she found in our entry way and played with it for a good half hour before it decided to spread it wings and frighten her (she claimed). Needless to say, that was the end of their friendship.

On another note, I have a little story about being "taken over".

On Halloween night, Keith and Ella were walking around and they saw spotlights in the sky in the distance. Keith told Ella they were aliens. When they got to the last house, which happened to be our neighbors, she walked up to the door, threw both hands in front of her and in all seriousness exclaimed...

"I am not here for candy! I am here to tell you that there are aliens coming! Do you see those lights in the sky? Those are aliens!

The neighbors apparently looked at her like she was crazy. You'd think they would humor her....but that didn't happen. Later, she proceeded to tell my mom that she saw little green men take a man and his puppy away. Her imagination is endless.

BSM - Halloween 2009

My Butterfly Fairy Princess. Anything with wings....a princess dress and a wand is all she cares about right now. If we would have let her, she would have worn her princess shoes, with heels!

BSM - My Wild Brunette

Keith put this tattoo on Ella one day after going to the MN Brew Review. He likes to drink dark, home brewed/micro brewed beers and got this from one of the stands he visited.

I found it very fitting for our little girl who is quite the wild brunette in her own right. She's so full of spunk. So full of spirit. And the word wild......Um yup, fits her perfectly....And I wouldn't have it any other way!

BSM - The Magical Clock

Have I taught Ella how to tell time yet? Not really. We talk about it, but she doesn't get the grasp so much. Its been okay with me though. That way I can put her to bed early if I want and she's none the wiser. Its a win win situation in my eyes. But lately, occurrences are beginning to happen where it appears that her learning to tell time might be a benefit to me instead of a hindrance.

For instance, she has been waking up way to early. I'm talking 530-6am, when Keith gets up for work. Usually, she will crawl into be with me, I will turn on some toons and Keith will get her some dry cereal or something and some juice before he leaves. I can probably manage to stay in bed with her until 730am on a good day at that point until she starts begging for me to get out of bed. Well, when she does it on the weekends too, it just becomes too much.

So this morning, she did her normal routine of rising and shining (while its still dark out) and came into my room. I told her that times were going to change and here were the rules. when she wakes up and it is still dark out, she can either play in her room quietly until it is light outside or she can come and lay in bed with Mommy....quietly....And when the first number on the clock turns to a 7 then we can turn the toons on (and I might get another hour of sleep in bed, heehee).

When she woke up this morning at 615am, 45 minutes was a LONG time for a 4 year old to wait until the first number turned to a seven. But she stared at that clock with fierce intent to make those numbers change. Once the 15 turned to a 16, she patted me on the back and said,

"Mama, that 5 turned into a 6! Did you see that? It was magical!"

It was a long 45 minutes until 7am. Did I get to fall back asleep until then? Nope. But at least we have a base down for our new morning rule.
